What is a Rating Scale?

The rating scale is a close-ended question type that has respondents rate attributes on a continuum of criteria.

It provides a suite of stances for respondents to fine-tune exactly where they stand and is commonly used to gauge interests, satisfaction, and compare concepts or attributes.

How to Create a Rating Scale

In 3 easy steps, you will be able to carve fun and easy paths to actionable feedback. See more below:

  1. 1
    Step 1: Write your question

Want to know if people dig your product or hate the shipping time? Pose the big question, fill out the statements and watch the insights roll in.

  2. 2
Step 2: Set the scale label

The ‘scale’ section deals with the wording and number of your scale’s values.
The standard scale slide on AhaSlides comes with 5 values, but you can increase this to any number you want (below 1000).

  3. 3
Step 3: Share your survey with the participants

If you're polling live, hit the 'Present' button. If you want to survey the audiences over a certain period, choose the 'Self-paced' option in the Settings. Share the survey link and you're good to go.

Ordinal Scale

The ordinal scale is good for ratings where order matters but distances aren't exact. Like movie reviews - we know an "A" is better than a "B" but how much better?

Interval Scale

There's the interval scale where the gaps DO mean something. Temperature is perfect - we know the difference between 20°C and 30°C is the same as 10°C to 20°C.

Ratio Scale

Last but not least, ratio scales. These have an absolute zero point you can measure from, like height or bank balance. 0 inches and $0 mean the total absence of that thing.
